It's that time again: A security issue has prompted Yahoo!-owned Tumblr to push out a "very important security update" for its iOS app, and users are advised to download them immediately.
Tumblr announced on its staff blog Tuesday that the company's free, universal iOS app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad received a quick security update to version 3.4.1 -- and users are strongly encouraged to install it as soon as possible.
The app update resolves "an issue that allowed passwords to be compromised in certain circumstances," which appears to involve the ability for others to "sniff" out a password while it's in transit on certain versions of the app.
"If you’ve been using these apps, you should also update your password on Tumblr and anywhere else you may have been using the same password," the blog post warns. "It’s also good practice to use different passwords across different services by using an app like 1Password or LastPass."
Needless to say, the folks at Tumblr are "tremendously sorry for this lapse and inconvenience," but enough talking -- get out there, download the update and change those passwords, folks.
